The machine learning conference brought together a dense, mixed and balanced gathering of ECAM and Icam engineers in Paris on December 7, 2023. The talk was given by Thomas Deneux, a researcher at the CNRS, a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Mathematics and holder of a PhD in Computer Science in the field of computer vision.

Many of us were captivated by this talk, which presented one aspect of generative AI: machine/deep learning and learning via neural networks. After briefly evoking AI through the ages, Thomas Deneux presented and demonstrated, via his pedagogical robot, how neural networks work and how systems are capable of self-learning and decision-making. The discussion then moved on to one of the most visible applications of AI, ChatGpt.

Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of AI, its capacity for absorption, understanding possible developments, apprehending the everyday introduction of AI into everyday life or professional life, discovering the different facets of AI and its applications (industry, health, commerce, finance, HR...), the field is vast. Are we already (or have we been for a long time) automating services? What use can we make of it? What are the ethics involved? What controls and validations?

On your keyboards, you've got 4 hours ... , and ChatGpt and other systems!

Many thanks to Marie-Christine Bidault for organizing this event.
