Xavier de la Servette, an open-air career

Whether an engineer is designing a car or a helicopter, his room for manoeuvre is not the same when it comes to aesthetics. But if art is to be understood as a set of skills and know-how mobilized to achieve a result, then aeronautics is one of them.


A graduate of Lille in 1976, Xavier de la Servette has spent most of his career at Airbus Helicopters, notably in the Design Office. And when asked about the artistic dimension in aeronautical engineering, he evokes Marcel Dassault's phrase: " A beautiful plane is a plane that flies well ", which he transposes to helicopters, even though they are more complex to design.
